Overview of Denver, NC

What the area is known for

Formerly known as Dry Pond, Denver is considered one of the most desirable places to live in North Carolina due to its proximity to Charlotte. But it’s more than a bedroom community. This small but vibrant town is a destination in its own right with a wealth of green spaces and a heavy dose of Southern charm.

Location and surrounding areas

Denver is sought for its strategic location roughly 25 miles north of Charlotte in the western piedmont of North Carolina. The city is situated on the eastern edge of Lincoln County, just south of Catawba County boundary lines. It is highly accessible as the city lies on North Carolina State Highway 16. It is also surrounded by natural scenery on the western banks of Lake Norman along the Catawba River. Nearby towns and cities include Sherrills Ford, Huntersville, and Lincolnton.

The area that makes up present-day Denver was once home to the Catawba and Cherokee Native Americans before it was settled in the 1770s. The area holds a unique place in the history of the United States with the Battle of Cowan’s Ford and other notable Revolutionary events having taken place here.

Denver incorporated as a town in 1877. It has since grown into a prosperous community with homes for sale in Denver, NC being some of the most coveted properties in the Lake Norman area. Denver lost its incorporated status in 1971 when the state rescinded the charters of several small towns; however, many locals prefer the unincorporated status.
